The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) will change the way we work in numerous professionsal fields, including academic research. The young generation of lawyers needs to learn how to use AI correctly. Some researchers have misused AI tools to have them write their research papers for them, but this is not only ghostwriting or plagiarism but also leads to disastrous results. Students and researchers may use AI tools, but not to replace but to improve their own work. Yes, this is possible, but it is not so easy and requires some understanding of how AI functions, how it can support scientific research and where are its limits, as well as some knowledge of which AI tools exist for which purpose, how to create strong prompts and follow-up prompts and how to obtain reliabe answers, even with precise references to scientific resources. The guest lecture will address these topics and also compare some of the most common AI chatbots. It will also warn about the inherent risks of using AI, such as desinformation, "hallucinating" and manipulation, and how to avoid them.

Our AI expert Stefan Noack is research associate [Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter] in accounting, controlling and internal auditing at the Westsächsische Hochschule (University of Applied Sciences) Zwickau in Germany and doctoral student in a cooperative doctorate project at the Kazakh-American Free University in Öskemen, Kazakhstan, and the Westsächsische Hochschule Zwickau.

The guest lecture will be held as hybrid lecture in English on Thursday, 25.09.2025, from 15:00 to 17:00, in room 3.1.1. The speaker will be speaking online from Germany to the audience gathered in room 3.1.1. After his presentation there will be ample time for questions & answers and discussion.

Attendance is mandatory for the participants of the courses "Methodology of Legal Research and Writing" (Intern. LL.M) and "Legal Writing and Language" (IUP) and for LL.M and MIH students preparing their thesis. Other interested students, lecturers and staff members are welcome to join us in room 3.1.1.
